RE: Member participation in ‘From Brain Drain to Brain Gain: Understanding and Managing The Movement of Medical Doctors in the South African Health System’ Case Study

Dear Members

The South African Medical Association (SAMA) would like to thank the 754 SAMA members who participated in the completion of the ‘From Brain Drain to Brain Gain’ case study.

This study has seen one of the highest response rates ever received from our members, and assisted in the understanding and managing of the movement of doctors in the health system, which will assist SAMA in advancing its mandate on employment of doctors.

SAMA acknowledges and understands that our members feel very strongly about the regulation of migration patterns for doctors and the requirements for monitoring, but no restriction on movement.

SAMA has also noted that the topic of working conditions has also come out very strong. As SAMA, we take these findings seriously and will continuously engage with policy makers to inputs that will ultimately benefit our doctors.

The completed case study has been attached to this e-mail and SAMA invites all members to read through the findings.
