The Council For Medical Schemes (CMS) Publishes Final Gynaecological Cancer Prescribed Minimum Benefit (PMB) Definitions
On 15 April, the CMS Published four benefit definitions for DT-PMB Conditions, cervical cancer, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer and vulvovaginal cancer.
These benefit definitions are not law, however they should serve to guide PMB-level-of-care entitlements for medical scheme members suffering from these conditions.
SAMA has participated in the gynaecological cancers benefit definitions process since the call for comments came out in CMS Circular 52 of 2017. We greatly appreciate the comments and concerns received from members to assist in our submissions and participation in the clinical advisory committee meeting in 2017.
We also appreciate the comments which came in response to the draft benefit definitions (published February 2019), which we requested in the SAMA Newsletter on 22 February and 1 March 2019. We also thank The South African Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SASOG) for their assistance with a final review of our comments and contributions.
