The Publishing Department publishes 9 academic titles, the South African Medicines Formulary (SAMF), SAMA Insider, Intern 101 and CommServ 201.
Our flagship is the South African Medical Journal (SAMJ) – first published in 1884 – which we distribute to more than 11 000 local doctors.

The South African Medical Journal is a monthly, peer-reviewed, internationally indexed, general medical journal publishing leading research impacting clinical care in Africa. The journal is not limited to articles that have ‘general medical content’, but is intending to capture the spectrum of medical and health sciences, grouped by relevance to the country’s burden of disease.
African Journal of Health Professions Education (AJHPE)
The African Journal of Health Professions Education is a journal for health professions educators. It carries research articles, short scientific reports, letters, editorials, education practice, personal opinion and other topics related to the education of healthcare professionals.
South African Journal of Bioethics and Law (SAJBL)
The South African Journal of Bioethics and Law is an online, tri-annual, peer-reviewed journal that covers matters related to ethics, law, human rights and related matters for the health professions.
South African Journal of Child Health (SAJCH)
The South African Journal of Child Health is an online, quarterly, peer-reviewed medical journal devoted to all aspects of health and healthcare of neonates, infants and children, of particular relevance and interest to its southern African readership.

The South African Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a is a bi-annual, general specialist obstetrics and gynaecology journal that publishes original, peer-reviewed work in all areas of obstetrics and gynaecology, including contraception, urogynaecology, fertility, oncology and clinical practice.
Southern African Journal of Public Health (SAJPH)
Southern African Journal of Public Health aims to bridge the divides between academia, policy and implementation in health systems intervention and reform. We publish papers with recognisable policy impact that draw on robust research and operational experience from both academic and non-academic authors on Population health and Preventive Medicine.

The African Journal of Thoracic and Critical Care Medicine is an online, quarterly, peer-reviewed medical journal which accepts submissions relating to both clinical and basic research in the Pulmonology, Thoracic Surgery and Critical Care fields and state-of-the-art reviews on any topic related to the scope of the journal.
The AJTCCM is the official journal of the South African Thoracic Society.
